The children did lots of great thinking on philosophy day. We played lots of games such as ‘Would you rather…. or…?’ and the children did a wonderful job explaining their reasons. We spent a lot of time in particular thinking about whether it was better to try and fail or to never try at all. The children were very respectful to each other and used great phrases such as ‘I understand what you are saying but I disagree because…’ to justify their opinions politely. At the end of the day, the children concluded that it is always better to give it a go and try because although you may fail, if you don’t ever try, you will never succeed either.
In science we looked at categorising rocks. The children worked beautifully as part of a team questioning and discussing with each other whether a rock was pale, dark, smooth or rough and presented their findings in either a Carroll diagram or Venn diagram.
