At St Mary's we work hard to include the children in their learning, encouraging them to be independent and also to take responsibility for their learning. To support this, we include children in the parental consultations.
Children share examples of their work and discuss what they have achieved so far during the term, as well as areas they feel they need to improve on, how they can do this and how their parents can help them at home. They also have the opportunity to share any other successes or areas of school they have particularly enjoyed. The class teacher also shares with parents their child's academic achievement and progress. They will also discuss their attitudes towards learning.
Early in the autumn term parents have the opportunity to come into school and visit their child's new classroom and to meet their new class teacher. These are called 'Open Classroom' sessions.
The first of the two yearly family consultations will follow the 'Open Classroom' session towards the end of the autumn term. The second of the family consultations will take place at the beginning of the summer term. At this Family Consultation parents can view their child's work which will be available for the parent to look at and discuss with their child.
In July we hold transition meetings where you have the chance to meet your child's new class teacher and share expectations for the coming academic year. Parents also receive a written record of achievement for their child in July.
