Admissions - Prospective Parents

For prospective parents/carers of children starting school September 2025, we will be holding our Open Day on Thursday 7th November at 9.30am. There will be a talk from Mrs Chambers, the Headteacher and a tour of the school.

We will also be holding tours of the school: 12th November at 11am, 13th November at 9.30am,
18th November at 9.30am, 20th November at 9.30am, 3rd December at 9.30am

How to join Reception

At St Mary's the published admission number is 60 at age 4+. Parents who are considering sending their children to St Mary's Reception classes in September 2025, the closing date for on-time applications for primary, infant and junior school is 15 January 2025. Do visit the school before applying to enable you to meet the staff, see the school in action, and ask questions. In the summer term before your child starts Reception, we offer an induction session during which he / she will meet and get to know the teacher and a parent information evening both of which will prepare him / her for school.

For children starting Reception in September 2026, updated dates will be added once announced.

How to join the Nursery

2023/2024: If our nursery is oversubscribed, applications for entry in 2023/2024 will be ranked according to the following criteria, which will be applied in the first instance to children wishing to take up the free early years provision:

a) Looked after and previously looked after children

b) Exceptional social/medical need

c) Children of a member of staff

d) Children who will have a sibling attending the nursery or the main school at the time of admission

e) Children who will turn 4 years old between 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024 (this is to give priority to older children who will be due to transfer to Reception in the next academic year and hence only have one year left to attend nursery)

f) Children who will be 3 years old between 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024 (these children will be able to stay on in nursery for another year in 2024/25 as they will not be due to start Reception until September 2024) Where any category is oversubscribed, children will be ranked according to the straight line distance that they live from the school or nursery, with priority being given to children who live closest.
