St Mary’s C of E Primary School

‘Learning for Life’

St Mary’s School is currently working towards The National Nurturing Schools Award. Achieving this award will show that our school has successfully embedded a nurturing culture that responds to the social, emotional and mental health needs of our children.

The award is underpinned by the Six Principles of Nurture. These principles guide schools in creating a nurturing environment that supports the holistic development of our children.

The Six Principles of Nurture are:

  • Children's learning is understood developmentally.
  • The classroom offers a safe base.
  • Nurture is important for the development of self-acceptance
  • Language is understood as a vital means of communication.
  • All behaviour is communication.
  • Transitions are significant in the lives of children.

Please see below to explore how we understand the Principles of Nurture here at St Mary's School.
