Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health

Our Vision for Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health

At St Mary’s, we understand wellbeing as a state of being comfortable, healthy and happy. We strive and are committed to creating an environment that provides excellent mental health support, understanding and intervention so that our children can reach their full potential, both personally and academically.

Our Mental Health First Aider is Jacquie Chambers.

What does Ofsted say about our Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health offer?

'They (the children) are supported to achieve well across the curriculum and thrive emotionally as a result of exceptional pastoral care.'

'Well-being and mental health are prioritised for everyone. One parent commented, ‘The nurturing environment makes the school feel like a family.’ Outdoor learning, play therapy, counselling and lunchtime nurture groups boost the welfare of pupils every day. Pupils adore the well-being dog, and families appreciate the valuable support of the home school link worker.'

'Leaders and staff show compassion and care, helping pupils to feel special, valued and safe. If pupils need help to regulate their emotions, the care they receive is transformative. Pupils learn to understand and manage their feelings, so everyone can succeed.'

What does SIAMS say about our Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health offer?

'Joyful and deep relationships are at the heart of the school. Expressing the vision, pupils and adults are treated well such that all are carried towards being the best they can be. Trust is high and everyone feels safe.'

'St Mary’s is shaped by its Christian vision and is a compassionate response to the place it serves. This is shown in the support for every child, including the most vulnerable.'

'St Mary’s deeply expresses its Christian vision through the breadth of its daily actions. Joyful interactions reveal a loving culture. It is a place where all are unreservedly welcomed, dignified and safe. The extensive pastoral provision means families trust the school.'

In 2023, we earned the WAS Wellbeing Award for Schools.

We are currently working towards the National Nurturing Schools Award.
